While the primary stated objective was to develop an iron melting furnace, it was no great surprise to find that the mere melting of iron does not ensure a supply of useable iron castings for projects, There are technical problems with grey iron casting beyond the high temperature required, Never-the-less we now have the capability to melt the iron and with determination we can work through the remaining problems, These are primarily slag removal and maintaining the required carbon and silicon content,
