0425185257...Alex is a likeable character. I like the relationship he has with Elise, but hope it will grow. I think that's the only thing I would say negative about this book is that I missed that. With Elise gone, all he did was miss her, but yet he's not sure what type of relationship they have. There was too much of that in this book. This series is very enjoyable. I always look forward to the next book coming out. The descriptions are very enticing. I would love to stay at The Hatteras West Inn.I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

Historical Dictionary of Ancient EgyptAuthor:

0810857944Scarecrow Press has updated its Historical Dictionary of Ancient Egypt volume, which is part of the Historical Dictionaries of Ancient Civilizations and Historical Eras series. The dictionary has been expanded and updated to reflect the latest research. Preceding the entries are an introductory overview of ancient Egyptian history and a chronology from prehistoric times to the beginning of the Arabic conquest in 642 CE. The major part of the work is an A–Z dictionary of rulers and leaders; battles and wars; and economic, cultural, and social topics. Each of the entries includes, in boldface, cross-references to other topics. In addition, there are two appendixes: one covering Egyptian dynasties and the other listing major world museums that have notable Egyptian collections. A rather lengthy bibliography of monographs completes the work. Most of the items are books published in English, but French and German publications are included as well. The Historical Dictionary of Ancient Egypt, originally published in 1999, was the first volume in the series and is the first volume of the series to be revised. Although this dictionary is oriented toward researchers and students of ancient Egypt, it is quite accessible to the general public. Purchase of this new edition is recommended for those libraries that did not purchase the first edition and need a dictionary of ancient Egypt.

Throw in Eve who wants to have her dog as ring boy and wants to wear a dress flashier than a Vegas costume and you have a perfectly hilarious cozy mystery where you're guaranteed that Annie is going to get her man (or woman), save Alex and pull off the perfect wedding to the man of her dreams. I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves cozy mysteries.

Mr. Timothy: A NovelAuthor:
Louis BayardPages:

EnglishISBN10:
0060534222As readers or, like myself, avowed non-readers of the various novels that purport to be sequels to the great novels (think "Scarlett") can attest, it is usually a fool's errand to attempt such a thing. But, once in a great while, o.k., probably never before, someone pulls off the trick. That someone is Louis Bayard. Mr. Timothy is, as we realize early on, none other than Tiny Tim Cratchitt, all grown up under the, probably less than we expected, tutelage of his "Uncle" N (for "neezer). He is, at 23 trying to find himself after a life less than splendid, by taking up living quarters in a brothel in the seedier section of London (No, don't bother re-reading that. You read it correctly the first time.) Into his life comes, among other things, a child thief not unlike a certain "dodger", a frightened (and with good reason) 10 year old Italian girl, several corrupt policemen, a one-handed body retriever, a "Columbo"-lik detective, and some of the most horrendous villains ever written. All of this is recounted in almost magical prose, with a period feel that few other modern authors even approach. "Mr. Timothy" may not be anyone's original idea of how "A Christmas Carol" might continue, but it is absolutely true to the realities of the time and place in which it occured. Indeed, its portrait of London and its people are nothing short of Dickensian. Read this, savor it, and then... readit again!

pdf,html,rtf,epub,lit,lrf,mobiLanguage:

1936070111What defines a great book? It is the ability to see, feel, and experience all that the characters are going through. It's reading passages that makes you want to reach into the pages to protect, shake up, or hug characters that are so well drawn, you feel as though you know them. It's a story that doesn't offer a happy ending, but no doubt, a real one. "Glorious" is that type of book. Bernice McFadden tells the story of Easter with unflinching and unapologetic honesty. There were so many times when I wanted so much more for Easter, but Ms. McFadden kept it truthful with a realness that was almost heartbreaking. "Glorious" is multi-leveled and an incredible read, full of historical facts and as timely today as when the story took place in the last century. It is surely destined to become a classic in years to come. Congratulations Ms. McFadden. Your star continues to burn brightly, a beacon for us all...

0851994059Farming Systems Research (FSR) may be defined as a diagnostic process, providing a collection of methods for researchers to understand farm households and their decision-making. Its applications use this understanding to increase efficiency in the use of human and budgetary resources for agricultural development, including research, extension and policy formulation. This book provides a detailed history of FSR. While it includes the application of FSR to developed country agriculture, its main focus is on FSR in its original role, with small-scale, resource-poor farmers in less developed countries. There are some 40 contributions from nearly 50 contributors from 20 countries, illustrating both the diversity and coherence of FSR. The book was initiated by the then International Association for Farming Systems Research and Extension (now International Farming Systems Association) and developed with support from FAO. It provides a wealth of information and insights for all concerned with agricultural development.

185283840XIt is the 41st millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on
the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a
million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly
with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom
a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets
cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit
by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperors will. Vast armies give battle in
his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space
Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard
and countless planetary defence forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the
Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to
hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants—and worse.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruellest and
most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of
technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the
promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no
peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting
gods.

9004132406"The intellectual heritage of Ancient Egypt" – once wrote Jan Assmann – "can hardly be said to have become part of our cultural memory. It is a subject of fascination, not of understanding." This fascination began when ancient Greek travellers started visiting Egypt, and continues unto this day, more often than not as a scholarly search for the oldest roots of our cultural memory. Jan Assmann's superb academic achievement undoubtedly represents the single most significant contribution to the modern understanding of Ancient Egypt, reaching far beyond the boundaries of Egyptology proper. The essays in this volume, all written by his friends and disciples, reflect the tremendous impact of his oeuvre on the scholarly world, encompassing not only Egyptological and related themes, but also central aspects of Judaeo-Christian identity such as monotheism and the historical events surrounding the recently discovered Diaspora temple of Yahu on the island of Elephantine.

0425212912I have become obsessed with watching the FOOD NETWORK, and am literally Rachael Ray's biggest fan. And while my cooking skills leave much to be desired, I still find world of chef-dom to be enthralling. So when I stumbled upon Miranda Bliss' COOKING UP MURDER, I knew it was the book for me. Within these pages, Bliss has created a sizzling tale starring a delectable duo, whose contrasting personalities mesh together to create the ultimate detective team. Annie is level-headed and hilarious. Her self-deprecating personality, and conflicts within herself regarding the opposite sex, her going-nowhere job, and hair emergencies produce a nice side-story to the mystery; while her sidekick, Eve, is more cool and collected. With a flair for fashion, men, and jumping the gun, Eve is a self-confident - and slightly self-absorbed - pal, who helps balance Annie's obsessive tendencies. While the two seem like people from two different sides of the spectrum, their friendship is one people dream about, that will strongly appeal to readers. A spicy concoction that leaves you hungry for seconds!

Tedrowe adeptly puts herself in the mind of a young-20s wanna-be chef Avery, middle-aged, mid-life-crisis Rachel, and elderly center-of-the-family-drama Winnie. I especially like the relationship between Avery and Winnie: it's endearing without being sappy. This is a fabulous debut novel and I look forward to reading another of her books!

Based on previously unpublished source material, it paints a vivid picture of the life, appearance and experiences of an American colonial ranger in the northern colonies. Find out what we wore and why we wore it in The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Clothing in American History - Twentieth Century to the Present. This fascinating reference set provides descriptions of styles of clothes that men, women, and children have worn since 1900, and, as important, why they wore them. In addition to chapters describing fashion trends and types of clothes, this work examines the impact that politics, culture, arts and entertainment, daily life and family structures have on fashion and how fashion can serve as an impetus for change in society. With volume one covering 1900-1949 and volume two covering 1950 to the present, the first half of each volume provides four chapters that each examine the impact that political and cultural events, arts and entertainment, daily life, and family structures have on cultural life and fashion. The second half of each volume describes the important and everyday fashion and styles of the period, decade by decade, for women, men, and children.Fashion is not for the exclusive use of the social elite and the rich, nor can it simply dismissed as mere vanity. It is much more complex than just wearing the latest styles. We use fashion to express who we are and what we think, to project an image, to bolster our confidence, and to attract partners. Research for this work was conducted through numerous primary and secondary resources on fashion and history.
