I've read all the Allie Beckstrom novels. The author Devon Monk has nevered failed to write a good one. Magic at the Gate is no exception.
The novel starts out immediately where Magic on the Storm: An Allie Beckstrom Novel left off. Allie, Stone, and the specter of her supposedly dead Dad step out of the gate into death to bring back Zayvion Jones. To rescue him Allie must work with her father Daniel Beckstrom with whom she has always had a love-hate relationship, with more emphasis on hate. She doesn't trust her Dad, but he is the only one that can help her navigate death without becoming a permanent resident. Along her journey through death Allie learns more about the balance between dark and light magic, and how it was torn apart. She discovers that in order to save Jayvion, she must make a choice that can have serious consequences for magic and the entire world.
This book was a great read all the way through. I look forward to the next one!
